How to Read Road Sweeper Truck Specifications

Separate the chassis, hopper, water system and working equipment when comparing sweepers. Use the route and refill plan to interpret each specification.

Read the vehicle and the cleaning system separately

A sweeper specification includes two linked systems: the chassis carries the equipment, while brushes, suction and water equipment perform the cleaning. Start with vehicle dimensions and permitted loading for the route, then examine the working equipment. Do not treat chassis-engine power as auxiliary-engine power, and do not assume that an overall vehicle width is the same as its working sweep width.

Distinguish hopper volume from water volume

The established wet-sweeper reference has a 7,000-liter hopper and a 9,000-liter water tank. A dry-and-wet dust collection reference lists an 11 m³ dust compartment and 6.5 m³ water storage. These volumes serve different purposes. The point at which a route must stop may be determined by water use or collected debris, not both at the same time. Check loaded axle weights and the intended operating sequence before assuming that all compartments may be filled simultaneously.

Interpret sweeping width under actual conditions

Working width describes the equipment arrangement. The established reference gives a maximum 3.2 m width; the single-engine reference describes a 3.2–3.5 m range. Neither establishes a guaranteed hourly area for your route. Parked vehicles, turns, debris, road edges, working speed and repeat passes affect coverage. Request the actual working-width arrangement of the offered vehicle and compare it with a measured route section.

Compare the engine arrangement

The established wet-sweeper reference lists a separate Cummins auxiliary engine rated at 125 kW. The single-engine configuration uses a different working-system architecture. Compare the power take-off arrangement, intended working hours and service access rather than assuming that one arrangement always uses less fuel. The exact chassis engine and maintenance schedule must match the vehicle proposed. No quantified saving is claimed for the single-engine reference.

Check the cleaning mode and service access

The dry-and-wet reference describes cartridge filtration with 12 filter cartridges. Discuss the actual dust and debris, filter cleaning access and emptying routine. A dry mode is not a claim of suitability for hazardous dust. For wet cleaning, plan the water supply and access to the cleaning equipment. Request operating and service information for the offered system; this overview does not replace the manufacturer’s manual.

Send the route with the specification request

Include destination, quantity, required drive side, route length, debris type, access restrictions, desired working width, refill points and hopper-emptying locations. Ask the supplier to identify the actual chassis, body, working equipment and permitted loading. State any right-hand-drive requirement so the chassis option can be included in the quotation. Compare the configurations below and carry the same operating brief into every quotation.
